The grade II listed Kentish Town Sports Centre re-opened its doors to the public in July 2010 following a £25 million refurbishment. Funded by the London Borough of Camden, introduced by Facility Operators, GLL, Unique worked on this project for a total of 26 months prior to the opening.
Dave Behagg (GLL Business Development Manager) commented, “as a listed building the aesthetics of what we have inherited are fabulous, but this has not come about without a great deal of hard work by and between the entire project team……… as one of our preferred suppliers we were able to introduce Unique to the project at an early stage – long before we were able to confirm the specifics of our order – initial meetings with the Consulting Engineers (CE) being in summer 2008. Thereafter Unique were able to maintain dialogue with the CE’s and Architects to ensure that, not only do we get what we require operationally, but that the provision complies with English Heritage requirements. This partnership is invaluable in the way that it saves us time and provides us confidence.”
Provision to the primary fitness areas includes a traditional Audeon cardio-entertainment area, with the background music variations over 6 zones, including an Aerobiking area and Technogym Easy Line. New to the GLL brand, a video matrix system has been provided alongside this, to all 8 screens, displaying visual signals from a combination of DVD, PC and Compact Flash. The Reception area is also equipped with LCD screens with their own individual digital signage systems.
Dave Behagg …. “Communication with our members is vital and always a challenge, but recent and relatively inexpensive technology means we can now do this in a far more interesting and effective way.”
